As I have grown older in age, I have grown wiser.
Ughhhh but more than that I have also grown wrinkles, dark spots, warts, moles and droopy eyelids.
By no means am I an old crone yet who is stirring the pot of potion, like Macbeth's witches, but I am definitely older. And yet when people look at me they can’t say that I am a day over 28, which was when I had my first child, over 21 years ago. The reason for my younger appearance is that my skin is still smooth. I don’t yet have any wrinkles around my eyes, which the biggest giveaway of your age.
As a brown skinned person, I hated when people told me that I could have been sooo pretty if I had a lighter skin. Or when they said that I have the perfect features of a movie actress, so it’s unfortunate that I have dark skin tone. I mean, seriously? STFU ! Keep your opinions to yourself.
Anyways, what I mean to say is that I decided early on that I keep my skin smooth and healthy- for as long as I can. So, I started in my 20s by taking serious care of my skin. I have an entire separate article on that in this blog about how to take care of your skin in different decades of your life.
I mean, if life is going to drag me, to become a wrinkly old person, I am not going down without a fight.
Now, it's important to note that no skincare product can guarantee complete prevention of wrinkles, as the formation of wrinkles is influenced by a combination of genetics, lifestyle factors, sun exposure, and the natural aging process. However, certain ingredients found in under-eye creams can help promote healthier skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles by addressing various factors that contribute to skin aging.
The main question to ask before you begin shopping is to ask, what are the important things that I should know in order to choose an under-eye cream?
To answer this question, I made a list. I know, I know, I'm that kind of person. The one who makes list for everything. What can I say, I can't help myself , and you are welcome ! So here are some things to consider;
1. Skin Type and Concerns: Understand your skin type (dry, oily, combination) and the specific concerns you want to address (dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, dryness). Different ingredients cater to different needs.
2. Ingredients: Look for key ingredients that target your concerns. Common ones include hyaluronic acid for hydration, retinol for fine lines, caffeine for puffiness, and antioxidants for brightening.
3. Fragrance and Irritants: Fragrance and certain harsh ingredients can cause irritation, especially in the sensitive under eye area. Consider products labeled "fragrance-free" and with minimal potential irritants.
4. Texture: Choose a texture that suits your preference—gel, cream, balm, etc. Thicker textures might provide more moisture, while lighter ones might absorb quickly.
5. Age: Younger skin might need lighter formulations focused on prevention, while mature skin might benefit from more potent ingredients targeting deeper concerns.
6. Hypoallergenic and Dermatologist Tested: These labels can indicate that the product has undergone testing for potential allergens and skin sensitivity.
7. Packaging: Air-tight, opaque packaging can help preserve the effectiveness of certain ingredients that degrade with light and air exposure.
8. Patch Test: Always perform a patch test before using a new product to check for adverse reactions.
9. Price Point: Quality doesn't always correlate with a high price. Research and read reviews to find effective products in your budget.
10. Reviews and Ratings: Customer reviews can provide insights into how a product works for real people with similar concerns.
11. Combination with Other Products: Consider how the under eye cream fits into your overall skincare routine. Some ingredients might interact or enhance the effects of other products.
12. Long-Term vs. Short-Term Benefits: Some ingredients provide immediate effects (e.g., reducing puffiness), while others have long-term benefits (e.g., retinol for fine lines).
13. Sun Protection: If your concern is also sun damage, consider a product with SPF, or layer it under a sunscreen. And Finally,
14. Consult a Dermatologist: If you have specific skin concerns or conditions, it's a good idea to consult a dermatologist before choosing an under-eye cream.
Remember that skincare is a personal journey, and what works for one person might not work for another. It's also important to give a new product some time to show results—skincare changes are often gradual. These are my recommendations for under-eye creams that benefit all skin types. I have tried these creams at atleast some part of my few decades without any skin allergies.
Let's discuss how each of the mentioned under-eye creams may help women of different ages maintain smoother-looking skin.
Now, I could have written pages on pages of how these creams work, effecting women in different decades, but I didn’t think you would care, so I made a table that has all the creams and their impact according to your age.
I know I know, I make tables too. Once you have kids, you learn pretty quickly, that picture is worth a thousand words.
Take a look at it and then you can choose the brand you think will suit you best according to your need. The list of the products that I have loved over time are listed below the table. The links also are in the list below. Just click the name of the cream you want and it will take you to amazon store.
As promised, here is the table outlining how the mentioned under-eye creams might generally affect women in different age groups:
Here’s the list of the great products from the list. Just start with the brand you trust and keep innovating with experience. Click on the name of cream you like to see on Amazon store. Most of these creams are around 20 dollars because value for money is an important aspect in beauty.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye Gel Cream: This gel cream hydrates the delicate skin around the eyes, which can help maintain its elasticity and plumpness, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Adequately hydrated skin appears smoother and healthier.
RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream: Retinol is a well-known ingredient that helps stimulate collagen production and skin cell turnover. By promoting cell renewal, retinol can contribute to reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time.
Baebody Eye Cream often contains ingredients like peptides that may help support collagen production and improve skin's elasticity. This can contribute to a more youthful appearance and potentially reduce the visibility of fine lines.
CeraVe Eye Repair Cream: Ceramides and hyaluronic acid in this cream can enhance the skin's moisture barrier and maintain hydration. Well-hydrated skin can appear smoother and plumper, diminishing the look of fine lines.
Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream: This cream often combines ingredients like peptides and niacinamide, which can work together to improve skin texture, support collagen production, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
La Roche-Posay Redermic R Eyes: This product's retinol content can help enhance collagen production and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, promoting smoother skin over time.
Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream: The hyaluronic acid in this cream helps to retain moisture, providing a plumping effect to the skin. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by dehydration.
Clinique All About Eyes: This eye cream focuses on hydration and soothing the under-eye area. Well-moisturized skin can appear smoother and may minimize the appearance of fine lines.
L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Eye Balm: This balm is formulated to address the needs of mature skin, providing deep hydration and nourishment to help maintain the skin's suppleness and potentially reduce the visibility of wrinkles.
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution: While this solution primarily targets puffiness and dark circles, it can indirectly help reduce the appearance of fine lines by decreasing under-eye puffiness, which can make wrinkles less noticeable.
Remember that the effects of these products can vary from person to person, and results take time.
Consistency in using these products, along with other skincare practices like wearing sunscreen, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and staying hydrated, can collectively contribute to healthier, smoother-looking skin. It's also a good idea to consult with a dermatologist before incorporating new products into your skincare routine, especially if you have specific skin concerns or sensitivities.
I have other articles in this blog that discuss the skin routines for different ages, if you have time then go have a look at them. They have a list of other products that you can use in complement with the under-eye cream. Don't worry, if you don't like anything. NBD. Come back whenever you want and re-read the blog. I may have updated it with something you like.
